Skye Cuillin Munros

Today was day 1 of the Skye Munros and we decided to tackle the northern 3 munros of Sgurr nan Gillean, Am Basteir and Bruach na Frithe.

The forecast was not that great, with strong winds and rain all day. I decided to go up Sgurr nan Gillean 1st, the more technical munro of the day, in the hope that the winds would be not as strong earlier on. I think the Scottish phrase of ‘blowing a hooley’ sums up the weather conditions.

Having done the Aonach Eagach with the guys before i knew they would be ok in the conditions and we made swift progress up to the summit, down the abseil on the west ridge and then up to the summit of Am Basteir, which was windier and wetter.

With a quick walk up to the 3rd munro of the day, Bruach na Frithe, we then made swift progress back down, when the clouds lifted and the rain stopped, allowing us to dry out.
